Many people need to feel occupied, purposeful, entertained in their spare time and turn to a hobby. There are thousands and thousands of hobbies, and one very popular hobby includes - RC hobbies. Radio controlled (RC) vehicles are extremely popular. These vehicles are self-powered and radio controlled by an operator a distance away with a specialized transmitter.
There is a large variety of cars, trucks, helicopters, airplanes, boats, sailboats, etc. Many RC hobbyists start out with cars or trucks that are run on the ground rather than in the air or in water because they are easier. Some hobbyists love these RC terrain vehicles (both on-road and off-road styles) so much they never bother with devices that are operated in the air or water. There are also various size available. These vehicles are high quality, look like the "real thing", and are very detailed in design.
RC cars have various power sources - some are electric powered by an electronic speed control and battery powered motor (rechargeable battery). There are also "nitro" cars which are powered by a nitro methane based fuel. The electric motors vehicles are the most popular because they run quieter, require less maintenance, and can be used indoors as well as outdoors safely. The downside of the electric vehicle is the running time is usually only 5 to 10 minutes, while nitro powered vehicles typically run longer and faster. However, nitro vehicles are noisy and generally require more maintenance.
In addition to different fuel types are numerous RC car types available - hobbyist may have the option to choose a vehicle just like they own or the vehicle they dream of owning.
RC cars do not have to be an expensive hobby; however, it depends on how many and what engine type you own. They are generally easy to operate and this is not generally considered a dangerous hobby. This is a great hobby for family members to share and bond over - like parent and child or grandparent and grandchild.
This can be a solo hobby or a group hobby, where the individuals take their RC vehicles to a remote area (parking lot, field, or indoor venue) and race them and improve their operating skills. There are also groups of RC hobbyists that have scheduled meets to race their RC vehicles against each other.
RC cars, other RC vehicles, and RC parts can be purchased at many big box stores and hobby stores either in the store itself or online. There are also magazines and websites about RC vehicles that assist both the new and experienced RC hobbyist.
